SETTING THE RIGHT
DOSE FOR EACH DOG

Start PEXION® at the initial recommended dose of 10 mg/kg:1

10 kg of body weight
= 100 mg tablet

20 kg of body weight
= 200 mg dose
(½ of 400 mg tablet)

40 kg of body weight
= 400 mg tablet

If seizure control is achieved with PEXION®, maintain the dose and monitor – the IVETF states routine bloods should be run every 6-12 months.2
ADJUSTING THE DOSE
Clients should understand that treatment adjustment should be expected with all
idiopathic epilepsy drugs.2,3 A high percentage of cases require adjustment of the
treatment protocol to attain a successful response.
Definition of inadequate seizure control
Determined as ‘inadequate’ if seizure frequency is not reduced by at least 50%, frequency is >1 seizure per 6 weeks or there has been no reduction in seizure severity. Follow-up appointments should be used to address reduction in seizure frequency. Ask the owner to keep a record of every seizure the dog experiences to monitor duration, frequency and severity.
